Discover how a GOLFTEC club fitting uses data-driven insights and expert coaching to match you with the perfect clubs - tailored to your swing for maximum performance.
Buying your first set of golf clubs in Singapore can be overwhelming. There are full sets, package sets, individual clubs and a huge range of brands and prices. Most beginners either spend more than they need or buy clubs that make learning harder. Here is what you actually need.
A Simple Starter Set
The rules allow up to 14 clubs, but beginners can learn and play perfectly well with around eight to ten:
- A driver or fairway wood - many beginners find a fairway wood easier at first
- One or two hybrids - much easier to hit than long irons
- Irons from 6 or 7 to pitching wedge
- A sand wedge
- A putter
Package Sets: Worth It?
Boxed package sets can be good value, but they are built for an average golfer. If you are taller, shorter, stronger or slower-swinging than average, the lengths and shafts may not suit you.
What Matters Most in Beginner Clubs
- Forgiveness - larger sweet spots make mishits less punishing
- Correct length - so you can set up in a comfortable, athletic position
- Suitable shafts - usually lighter and more flexible than beginners expect
- Enough loft - to get the ball in the air easily
Should Beginners Get Fitted?
Many beginners think fitting is only for good golfers. In fact, clubs that suit your body make it much easier to learn a good swing. You do not need the most expensive clubs, but you do need the right ones.
Many of our students take a few lessons first, then book a club fitting once their swing has settled. That way, the fitting reflects the swing you are building rather than the one you started with.
